Connecticut lawmakers are considering a bill that could introduce a cap on single online sports bets and position the state to join the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MISGA). Senate Bill 01464, which has been referred to the Joint Committee on General Law, aims to regulate online betting while expanding opportunities for online poker players.
Possible Limits on Online Bets
One of the key provisions in SB 01464 is the introduction of a maximum limit for individual online sports wagers. If enacted, the Commissioner of Consumer Protection would be tasked with establishing regulations to set this cap. However, details on the exact amount of the limit remain undisclosed.

Connecticut’s Path to MISGA
Beyond betting limits, the bill’s primary objective is to meet the requirements for joining MISGA, a multi-state agreement that allows online poker players to compete across state lines. Currently, MISGA includes Delaware, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
To align with the agreement, the bill proposes defining online poker as a peer-to-peer casino game, where players compete against each other rather than the house. It also grants the governor authority to negotiate deals with other states or territories for multi-jurisdictional online poker, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws.
Additional Provisions
The bill also emphasizes responsible gambling measures. It includes a proposal for a toll-free hotline to assist individuals facing gambling-related issues. Additionally, it requires sportsbooks to halt wagers if irregularities in odds are detected and, if necessary, provide refunds to affected bettors.
With SB 01464 under review, Connecticut could soon join the ranks of MISGA states while introducing new protections for online bettors.
