Dodgers, Padres Clash Intensifies with Hit Batsmen

Tensions flared as Dodgers and Padres exchanged hit-by-pitches, with Ohtani and Tatis Jr. both drilled during heated finale.
Dodgers, Padres Clash Intensifies with Hit Batsmen

Rivalry Heats Up After Players from Both Sides Get Hit

The long-standing tension between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres escalated during Thursday’s matchup, turning the field into a battleground. In the ninth inning of San Diego’s 5-3 win at Dodger Stadium, Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. was hit on the right hand by Dodgers pitcher Jack Little, marking the third time in seven games that Tatis has been struck by Dodgers pitching.

His availability for the upcoming series against the Kansas City Royals remains uncertain as he undergoes evaluation.

Managers Ejected Following Heated On-Field Exchange

Tatis’s hit-by-pitch triggered a fiery confrontation between the two dugouts. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and Padres manager Mike Shildt exchanged words, with Roberts appearing to shove Shildt. Both were promptly ejected. Though benches cleared, no physical altercations occurred between players.

In a dramatic continuation of the feud, Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani was hit in the right shoulder by a 100 mph fastball from Padres reliever Robert Suarez later in the ninth inning. That pitch added more fuel to an already volatile series.

Eight Batters Hit in Four-Game Series

Over the four-game stretch, a total of eight players were hit by pitches, underscoring the intensity of the division rivalry. While neither team officially confirmed the incidents were intentional, both managers voiced strong opinions postgame.

“Well, I think he knew it was intentional,” Roberts said about Ohtani’s hit-by-pitch. “He wasn’t hurt by it, and he didn’t want any more drama, which I respect that a lot.”

Padres manager Shildt, however, emphasized the physical toll on his players: “Whether it was (intentional) or it wasn’t, enough is enough. We got a guy who’s getting X-rays right now, is one of the best players in the game. This guy has taken shots.”

Next Meetings Set for August

With the Padres currently five games behind the Dodgers in the NL West, both teams will have time to cool off before their next face-off. The two clubs are scheduled to meet again for back-to-back series in mid-August—first in Los Angeles from August 15 to 17, followed by another three-game set the following weekend in San Diego.

Tensions will likely remain high as both clubs aim for postseason contention while managing a rivalry that appears far from settled.
