New Policy Demands Strict Ad Approval Process
Meta has introduced a tougher set of regulations aimed at controlling the promotion of online gambling across its platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. The company is seeking to close loopholes that previously allowed unverified gambling content to reach users without proper scrutiny.
Starting immediately, Meta will enforce a mandatory approval process. Any business or individual aiming to promote gambling-related content must submit their campaign for review through the Permissions and Verifications section of Meta’s Business Suite. Without official authorization, such content will be prohibited from appearing on the platforms.
All Gambling Categories Now Under the Policy
This new directive applies to a broad range of gambling activities, including online sportsbooks, casinos, lotteries, poker games, prize-based competitions, and affiliated services. Meta emphasized that no operator will be able to bypass this system with generic approvals or past credentials.
To gain advertising permissions, applicants must meet strict requirements. All requests must be submitted in English, and the company reserves the right to request additional documentation to confirm legitimacy. The goal is to reduce the visibility of unregulated gambling promotions and align with global regulatory expectations.
Influencers Required to Register as Affiliates
Influencers have become a popular channel for promoting gambling content, often through casual videos that highlight large wins or entertaining gameplay. However, Meta has recognized this trend and is expanding its oversight.
Anyone, including influencers, who shares gambling content tied to an operator must now register as an affiliate and secure approval through Meta’s official process. This policy shift aims to eliminate indirect promotions that exploit influencer reach without proper accountability.
Long-Term Impact Will Be Closely Watched
While Meta’s changes are being welcomed as a proactive step, questions remain about enforcement and the platform’s ability to detect more subtle forms of advertising. Still, the company’s move signals a stronger commitment to protecting users from misleading or illegal gambling promotions.
