The Los Angeles Lakers overcame a tough challenge against the New York Knicks, erasing a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter to secure a 113-109 overtime victory. This win marks their eighth consecutive triumph, further solidifying their dominance since acquiring Luka Dončić.
Dončić led the team with 32 points, 12 assists, seven rebounds, and four steals, while LeBron James added 31 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists. Since the trade that brought Dončić to Los Angeles, the Lakers have gone 12-2, climbing to second place in the Western Conference.
Dramatic Finish and Brunson’s Injury
The game’s intensity peaked in overtime, but with a minute remaining, Knicks star Jalen Brunson suffered an ankle injury while driving to the basket. His foot landed awkwardly on Austin Reaves’ foot, leading to a painful fall. Despite the injury, Brunson stayed on the floor to sink two free throws, tying the game, before heading to the locker room. He did not return and finished with 39 points and 10 assists.
The fourth quarter was a battle, with the Lakers making a 10-1 run to close the gap. A clutch three-pointer from Gabe Vincent, assisted by James, gave the Lakers their first lead since the second quarter. Brunson responded with an and-one play to tie the game with 46 seconds left, and both teams delivered crucial defensive stops to send it to overtime.
In the final moments of regulation, the Knicks had a chance to win, but the Lakers’ defense forced Brunson to pass to Josh Hart, who couldn’t get a shot off before the buzzer.
